It Takes Guts To Make Big Decisions

We make decisions all day every day. What to have for breakfast, who to call, emails to send, customers to take on or drop.

Usually it's a combination of our mind and gut feelings required to choose which way to go. Gathering information online, talking to friends and seeking the experience of professionals all add to our final choice.

At the end of the day it's up to us. So we can take the easy way out and go with a recommendation from someone else. The added benefit here is you have someone to blame if it doesn't work out. Or we can take total responsibility for our actions and consult our gut.

Many of my best decisions come from my personal adviser, my gut. Sure I gather information first. You can't make good choices in a vacuum. But then I act.
I've learned over the years that instinct and gut feel tend to be right more often than not. I can't explain it and don't really want to know why. It just works and that's good enough for me.

One of the biggest decisions you'll make in your adult life is when to end one career and possibly start another. In other words when to stop doing what you've been doing for decades and do something else.

At some point you need to draw a line in the sand and make a decision. So do you go with your gut? Or do you continue gathering information, agonizing over all the possible outcomes and never make a choice? Eventually the choice will be made for you. The risk is, it may not be the one you want.

I seem to be a first stop on the path to selling a business. Business Owners read my book or posts, friends refer them to me and eventually they call or email. Requests come in daily. Basically saying, Eric I am thinking about selling or transitioning out of my business would you have a few minutes to talk? The answer is always yes. I am very pleased to help in any way I can and will make the time for you. This is a big decision and you need all the assistance you can get. For my loyal readers, who know me, your gut may be saying call Eric and I hope you do.

We'll start with the easy questions and work our way to the thing that is blocking you. Typically it tends to be personal and emotional not business. Your gut knows what is wrong and what to do about it. Sometimes it feels like you just don't have enough information.

So how does it work? I will start by asking questions about your company and slowly you will want to talk about you. That's when you realize your gut is speaking out and asking for answers.

In the end it's still up to you. We all have our own process for decision making and I will always respect yours.
